Where the ratings come from. Every snow load figure shown here is Palram-Canopia's own published rating for that model, in kg/m². The lb/ft² figure beside it is the conversion of that rating, not a separate measurement. The same figures appear in the Specifications on each product page.

The calculation. Depth in inches = load in lb/ft² ÷ snow density in lb/ft³ × 12. Densities are the ranges published on our Snow Density Table. Because each snow type covers a range of densities, the answer is a range: the shallow end assumes the densest snow of that type, the deep end the lightest. The pictures beside each snow type are illustrations, not photographs.

Snow on a real roof is not uniform. Drifting, a valley between two roof slopes, a sheltered wall, meltwater refreezing into an ice layer, or a second snowfall landing on a settled base can all put far more weight on one part of the structure than an even depth would suggest. Measure at the deepest point, not the average, and treat mixed layers as the heaviest type present.

Ratings assume the greenhouse is built as designed. A correctly anchored frame, every bolt and glazing clip fitted, no missing or damaged panels, and no modifications. An unanchored, partly assembled, aged or damaged greenhouse will not carry its rated load.
